Vijay Sharma is a first-generation Canadian who immigrated to Canada in 1981 and has spent her life building a path defined by resilience, adaptability, and a deep commitment to community. As a founding member of Chopal Parivaar, she helped lay the foundation for a space where people feel supported, connected, and valued. Alongside raising her family with strong cultural values, Vijay has balanced multiple careers, demonstrating determination, resourcefulness, and a lifelong dedication to service.
Having navigated the immigrant journey herself, Vijay understands firsthand the challenges of settling into a new country, including cultural adjustments, unfamiliar systems, and the sense of starting over. Over the years, she has supported many families as they found their footing in Canada, helping them adapt, connect, and build a sense of belonging.
At her core, Vijay is deeply social and has always found joy in bringing people together. During COVID, she witnessed how isolation was affecting individuals and families, with many losing their sense of connection and zest for life. What began as a small effort through organizing gatherings, celebrations, entertainment, and even bus tours grew into meaningful opportunities for people to step out, explore, and reconnect. For many, these experiences would not have been possible without her initiative, leading to new friendships and a renewed sense of community.
Vijay brings a grounded, people-first approach to everything she does. She connects effortlessly across generations and backgrounds, creating spaces where people feel welcomed and included. She remains passionate about uplifting others, supporting meaningful causes, and continuing to build a community where everyone has a place to belong.
